I’m nearing the end of Revelations 2 and I really don’t like it at all. Update: I have now beat it, and I hate it. I tried to be more lenient since it was a budget game, but it’s awful.
If doing something new and unique is making a shitty Last of Us, then I guess it’s very unique. The episodic format is annoying, played out by the time it came out and was just trying to capitalize on the trend. It works in Rev 1 because that game was meant to be played in twenty minute bursts since it was a DS game. In Rev 2 it ruins what little pacing it has. Anytime the game gets slightly interesting (which is rare) it switches gears to jump to the other characters. The character swapping in the game is just in the way in general. Having to switch from Claire to Moria just so Moria can shine her flashlight on an item, so it can be picked up is so fucking dumb. Even if you played this in two player it would barely alleviate the annoyance, and thats only because player 2 would now be playing an even worse version of Rev 2. Barry’s segments were okay at best. The character switching almost works here, as Barry is basically Claire and Moria put together (even though he still can’t pick up certain items, unless Natalia points at them first.) But in the beginning their dynamic works. Natalia is able to point out enemies weak spots, it’s a novel mechanic, until you have to do it 100 times. Swapping from Barry to look at the enemy as Natalia, find it’s weak spot, swap back to Barry, shoot it two to three times in that spot and do it again with the next enemy. Instakill enemies, and enemies that spit goop on the screen so I can’t see aren’t fun. What little story there is, is super weak. After playing for a bit, I thought maybe that’s why you liked it, you had mentioned that it was like Saw. We get this Overseeer villain, who is Weskers sister. She has absolutely no personality. She randomly shows up as a monster in third episode and then we don’t see her for a few hours, then she’s transforms at the end into a cool design and you have a boss fight. She has Saw type traps, and areas that remind me of the Evil Within, but it all just feels so generic. It’s that kind of fake edgy horror aesthetic, where it’s all rust and barbwire. The main conflict is really between Barry and his daughter. They haven’t spoken in years because of some accident, which we later find out is that Moria got one of her dad’s guns out and accidently shot her little sister (she lived) and Barry yelled at Moria. That’s it. Moria walks around bad mouthing her dad, because he made her feel bad for this mistake, but she should feel bad. We don’t get to see the scene, but it seems like she was old enough to know not to play with a fuckin gun. And yeah Barry should have locked it up better, but I don’t give a fuck about any of this especially since Moria is so annoying. Constantly saying dumb shit. ” I’m gonna survive the fuck outta this!” “Yeah, fuck technology, fuck it right up the ass.” Then there’s this other fucking dude. He’s running from monsters in the woods and he yells “Mother of balls, my life is awesome!”
then he takes shelter in a old bar, he bumps into a jukebox and it runs on startling everyone with him and he says “Ha, any requests.” and no joke Claire and everyone laughs like it’s a fucking sitcom. You can argue dialogue is bad in other RE games all you want, but it’s never made me physically cringe.
While I was playing I thought, “At least it won’t be worse than six because it’s shorter.” but by the end I would have rather replayed 6
Whatever other peolle thought was special about it, I just don’t see.
I really hated this game. Other people seem to like it though so I guess I’m in the minority. I hear the Raid mode is good, I’ll check that out sometime.
